The federal electorate of Farrer covers more than 126,000 square kilometres across south-western New South Wales, including communities along the Murray, Murrumbidgee, Edward, Darling and Lachlan river systems.

Agriculture is a major part of Farrer’s economy and identity, with both small and large-scale irrigation properties across the Murrumbidgee and Murray River regions.

Farm production includes cotton, rice, irrigated cereals, dairy products, wool, fat lambs and cattle, as well as citrus, table grapes, wine grapes and vegetables. Every single day across the electorate, crops are being harvested to supply Australia and beyond with world-class produce.

Local employment spans both the public and private sectors, servicing rural and regional industries including health, education, hospitality, construction and real estate. Migrants also make an important contribution to the workforce and communities across Farrer. Albury and Griffith are the largest centres in Farrer, and together are home to around half of the electorate’s population of 173,000.*

In addition to Albury and Griffith, the Farrer electorate includes the local government areas of Balranald, Berrigan, Carrathool, Greater Hume, Hay, Murrumbidgee, Leeton, Murray River, Edward River, Federation, Narrandera and Wentworth.
