Member for Farrer David Farley has delivered his maiden speech in the House of Representatives, outlining his commitment to the people of Farrer and his priorities for regional Australia.
Drawing on his upbringing in Narrandera and a career spanning agriculture and agribusiness, David spoke about the importance of protecting Australia’s productive capacity, strengthening national sovereignty and ensuring regional communities have a strong voice in Canberra.
His address touched on some of the issues facing communities across Farrer, including water policy and the Murray–Darling Basin Plan, agricultural production and the economic consequences of decisions affecting regional industries. He also spoke about the need for Australia to remain resilient in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
David reflected on Australia’s generosity and the importance of protecting the values and opportunities the country has built, while acknowledging the contribution made by people from many backgrounds.
The speech also provided a personal insight into the experiences that have shaped David’s approach to public life. He paid tribute to his family, including his mother, daughters and grandchildren, and acknowledged those who had supported his journey to Parliament.
